NGBS Green +SMART HOME
Meet or exceed the mandatory requirements for a NGBS Green +SMART HOME
NGBS Green+ certification provides a streamlined, supplementary, third-party recognition for NGBS Green Certified homes based on their exceptional performance in one (or more) of six categories of green practices, including SMART HOME. A "smart home" is one that is equipped with network-connected products for controlling, automating, and optimizing functions such as temperature, lighting, security, safety, or entertainment. These products can be controlled, either remotely by a phone, tablet, computer, or a separate system within the home itself.
All homes that earn the NGBS Green +SMART HOME certification must include:
- Automated or voice-activated control of HVAC, lighting, alarm system, or door locks; and
- Programmable communicating thermostat with remote capability. Where irrigation is installed, the irrigation system must be controlled by smart irrigation controllers that are in accordance with the EPA WaterSense performance criteria. Additional practices from the following sections must also be met for badge compliance.
Compliance Criteria
Required to earn the +SMART HOME certification:
- Meet all 3 applicable mandatory practices for smart homes.
- Achieve at least 18 points from available optional practices.
- Identify smart home features and their potential for conserving energy and water in homeowner or multifamily occupant manual.
