Product Information:

VERSA-LAM® laminated veneer beams and headers eliminate twisting, shrinking and splitting, and deliver flatter, quieter floors. These beams are manufactured in multiple widths and depths to match BCI® joists and are available nationally.

The following biobased products are used:

  1. certified solid wood in accordance with Section 606.2
  2. engineered wood
  3. bamboo
  4. cotton
  5. cork
  6. straw
  7. natural fiber products made from crops (soy-based, corn-based)
  8. products with the minimum biobased contents of the USDA 7 CFR Part 2902
  9. other biobased materials with a minimum of 50% biobased content (by weight or volume)

8 points maximum awarded. 3 points is the minimum score. Additional points listed in 606.1(3) cannot be claimed unless 3 points are claimed for 606.1(1) or 6 points for 606.1(2).

 6 To earn 6 points, this product must be at least 1% of the construction material cost and another biobased product, also at 1% of material cost, must be used. Lesser points are available at the 0.5% level.

Manufacturer's Comments: Versa-Lam and Versa-Stud products have consistent dimensions an weight and are lighter and stronger than dimensional lumber.
606.2(1)

Where a minimum of two certified wood-based products are used for minor elements of the building, such as all trim, cabinetry, or millwork.

 3 To earn 3 points, a second certified wood product must also be used as a minor element.

Manufacturer's Comments: Versa-Lam and Versa-Stud products are manufactured from wood certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).
608.1 Products containing fewer materiasl are used to achieve the same end use requirements. 3 At least 80% of structural composite lumber in the building is this product.

Manufacturer's Comments: Versa-Lam and Versa-Stud products have approximately 35% greater bending strength while using 49% less wood fiber than dimensional lumber.

606.1(2) At least 2 types of biobased products are used, each for more than 1% of the project's projected building material cost. 6 points max. 6 To earn 6 points, this product must be at least 1% of the construction material cost and another biobased product, also at 1% of material cost, must be used. Lesser points are available at the 0.5% level.
