Product Information:

Nordic X-Lam cross-laminated timber (CLT) is composed of cross-wise glued-laminated spruce-pine-fir and/or black spruce species boards. The result is a building material high in resistance and stiffness that can easily substitute steel or concrete.

601.2(2) Higher-grade or higher strength of the same material than commonly specified for structual elements are used. 3 Product must be used for structual elements and the specifed size must reflect a size reduction due to the higher strength properties of the product when compared to commonly specified wood products.

Manufacturer's Comments: Nordic X-Lam products are higher strength than commonly-used structural products.
606.1

The following biobased products are used:

  1. certified solid wood in accordance with Section 606.2
  2. engineered wood
  3. bamboo
  4. cotton
  5. cork
  6. straw
  7. natural fiber products made from crops (soy-based, corn-based)
  8. products with the minimum biobased contents of the USDA 7 CFR Part 2902
  9. other biobased materials with a minimum of 50% biobased content (by weight or volume)

8 points maximum awarded. 3 points is the minimum score. Additional points listed in 606.1(3) cannot be claimed unless 3 points are claimed for 606.1(1) or 6 points for 606.1(2).

 3, 6 To earn 6 points, this product must be at least 1% of the construction material cost AND another bio-based product, also at 1% of material cost, must be used. Lesser points are available at the 0.5% level.

Manufacturer's Comments: Nordic X-Lam products are made from trees under Nordic’s stewardship, a natural and renewable resource.
606.2(2)

Where a minimum of two certified wood-based products are used in major elements of the building, such as walls, floors, or roof.

 3, 4 To earn 4 points a second certified wood product must also be used as a major element. Lesser points available for use with a minor element.

Manufacturer's Comments: Nordic X-Lam wood is certified to the requirements of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
606.3

Materials are used for major components of the building that are manufactured using a minimum of 33% of the primary manufacturing process energy derived from renewable sources, combustible waste sources, or renewable energy credits (RECs).

 2 These products must be used for a major component of the building.

Manufacturer's Comments: Hydro-electricity and biomass are used to manufacture the Nordic products, which are renewable energy sources.
608.1 Products containing fewer materiasl are used to achieve the same end use requirements. 3 At least 80% of the structural beams in the building are these products.

Manufacturer's Comments: Nordic X-Lam products enable the use of advanced framing techniques.
901.4(2-6)

A minimum of 85% of material within a product group (i.e., wood structural panels, countertops, composite trim/doors, custom woodwork, and/or component closet shelving) is manufactured in accordance with the following.

 4 A minimum of 85% of the wall structure in the building must be this product.

Manufacturer's Comments: Nordic wood products contain no added urea formaldehyde resins.
