New & Improved NGBS Green Verifier Training

Published Friday, May 29, 2026

In conjuction with the release of the 2025 National Green Building Standard (NGBS), Home Innovation has developed a comprehensive, multi-module training program to prepare Verifiers for verifying the next generation of NGBS Green certified buildings. We have also strengthened our entire Verifier training program with the launch of Verifier Boot Camp, updates to the 2020 NGBS Verifier Training, and enhancements to our Field Rep and WRI Verifier courses.

The 2025 NGBS Verifier Training introduces a more flexible, performance-driven standard emphasizing ESG principles, resilience, and code alignment. It covers enhanced requirements for energy, water, and resource efficiency; occupant health and air quality; and updated compliance paths for both new and existing buildings. The updated 2020 NGBS Verifier Training provides a solid foundation in the standard’s structure and verification procedures, focusing on sustainability, energy efficiency, and responsible design while introducing specialized certifications, including WaterSense and NGBS Green+. Verifier Boot Camp delivers intensive instruction on NGBS Green policies, verification procedures, documentation standards, and QA expectations—equipping Verifiers with the expertise and tools needed to ensure accurate, high-quality certifications.

Together, these courses form the core of Home Innovation's Verifier training suite. Each must be completed within 90 days of purchase and concludes with an open-book multiple-choice exam requiring a minimum score of 80% to pass (with two attempts allowed). The 2020 and 2025 Verifier Trainings also include a Scoring Tool scenario exercise.

Field Rep Training requires the completion of a Scoring Tool plus participation in the completion of two rough and two final verifications under the supervision of a qualified Verifier. The WRI Verifier Training, available after completing the 2020 NGBS Verifier training course, also requires the completion of a scenario exercise.
All tests have been recently updated to improve clarity and accuracy!

These trainings must be completed before a Verifier can verify a home or building to the applicable NGBS version. Existing accredited professionals have one year after the 2025 NGBS launch to update their accreditation, and Master Verifiers have 90 days.

We know the 2020 NGBS is a favorite among our Verifier community, but don’t let that keep you from pursuing 2025 accreditation. Getting accredited early helps you expand your services, work with owners and developers pushing the green building envelope, and show your clients you’re a leader in this field.
